Open Positions:

Production Staff

Ziegenfelder Production Staff are responsible for:

  • Placing sealed individual units in packaging and ensuring proper package sealing.
  • Repackaging improperly sealed, or coded, product.
  • Disposing of scrap product and raw materials.
  • Keeping work area clean.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Food Service/Production Experience
  • High School/GED

Maintenance Technician

A Ziegenfelder Maintenance Technician is responsible for:

  • Ensuring production equipment is set up and maintained to produce quality Ziegenfelder treats ready for delivery to customers.
  • Preparing and configuring machinery for scheduled production runs.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, electronics (PLC’s), and hydraulic systems and providing immediate corrective maintenance support to production lines, conveyor belts, and ancillary production equipment.
  • Checking and maintaining proper fluid levels in various pieces of equipment.
  • Performing overhauls of existing production equipment.
  • Maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration equipment.
  • Installing new production equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Complying with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  • This position is responsible for the food safety of our products

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience in industrial maintenance ideally in a food environment
  • Experience working with ammonia refrigeration.

Food Safety Technician

A Ziegenfelder Food Safety Technician is responsible for:

  • Taking samples following a schedule and also ad hoc as required
  • Testing for microorganisms in various products; count and record results
  • Making recommendations for corrective or preventive action; initiating action at times
  • Effectively communicating the results of testing (written and orally)
  • Maintaining quality results by running standards and controls, and performs routine calibration of lab equipment
  • Performing quality audits on various products
  • Assisting with the auditing, writing and revision of procedures as needed
  • Other Food Safety activities as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a science field such as chemistry, microbiology, or other related field preferred, or experience in lieu of education
  • HACCP, SQF, PCQI experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills to include the use of Microsoft Office products, and the ability to learn other software and become the local resource for Food Safety software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Lab experience a plus

Freezer Technician

A Ziegenfelder Freezer Technician is responsible for:

  • Pulling finished products from the production conveyor belt and stacking on pallets properly.
  • Checking all products to ensure proper coding.
  • Ensuring proper amount of product is neatly stacked on pallets and all boxes on the pallet meet quality standards.
  • Wrapping palletized product with plastic stretch wrap.
  • Ensuring proper tags are printed and posted on all palletized products.
  • Ensuring that inventory is properly entered in appropriate inventory tracking systems.
  • Ensuring all palletized product is properly located in warehouse for picking.
  • Picking palletized product for shipping.
  • Communicating with operations to ensure correct amount of raw materials are readily available for each shift.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 - 3 years of warehouse experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate electric powered forklifts and electric powered pallet jacks.
  • Must be able to work in cold temperatures.
  • Must be available to work all shifts to include weekends and holidays.

Physical Abilities:

  • Possesses visual acuity to safely operate forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • May need to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 30 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly.
  • May need to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, reach, stand, push, and pull frequently during a shift.

Team Leader

A Ziegenfelder Team Leader is responsible for:

  • Supervising production teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of production lines, producing quality Ziegenfelder treats for delivery to customers.
  • Leading and driving a team in a manner consistent with Ziegenfelder Values.
  • Supporting Safety, Quality and the Operation Teams to produce and package quality Ziegenfelder treats.
  • Coordinating with Production Supervisor to manage staffing levels ensuring safe, efficient, and productive use of employees.
  • Ensuring that environmental and safety expectations are followed during the shift and that exceptions, needs or opportunities are addressed and shared via our Event Management application.
  • Verifying production paperwork to confirm completion, and accuracy, of raw material usage logs, metal detector calibrations, and product quality checks.
  • Undertaking proper corrective/preventative actions when there is a safety, quality or defective product event.
  • Coordinating with Plant Director and Production Supervisor to review and manage production schedules, cleaning operations, and product changeovers.
  • Working with Production Supervisor to ensure Operators have the leadership skills and abilities necessary to lead production teams to success.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a management or leadership role required, preferably in the food manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment highly preferred.
  • Ability to motivate and lead in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading and driving a team towards specific production goals or KPIs is a must.
  • Mechanical or operational background, in addition to the above qualifications, is a plus.
  • OSHA 10-hour General Industry Training and Certification a plus.
  • Root-cause or problem-solving training a plus.

Process Safety Engineer

A Ziegenfelder Process Safety Engineer is responsible for:

  • Evaluate, research and develop new/alternate processes, equipment and technologies for our ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Develop and monitor equipment performance to identify trends, detect problems and opportunities, and implement changes and controls in the equipment to continuously improve our company.
  • Collaborate with multiple business areas to define expected operational success criteria including supporting maintenance of all the elements for PSM/RMP such as but not limited to: Process Safety Information (PSI), Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Safety Start-up Reviews, etc.
  • Prepare RFPs including clear statement of work, project success criteria, process flow diagram, equipment specifications, where appropriate to support accurate vendor proposals for work on the refrigeration systems.
  • Support site safety, environmental compliance / reporting, especially as it relates to PSM, RMP and Homeland Security.
  • Review RMP submittals including release calculations and offsite consequence analysis modeling. Serve as eSubmit preparer for submittal.
  • Work with internal designated PSM Champions for the Wheeling, WV and Denver, CO plants to build their compliance and risk management knowledge while helping the plant teams prioritize PSM/RMP needs year over year based on risk, budget, and regulatory deadlines.
  • Develop the compliance assurance process to ensure reoccurring deadlines for PSM/RMP are achieved for the plants using EHSVelocity and/or the Preventative Maintenance System.
  • Adherence to all safety guidelines and work to provide a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with ammonia refrigeration (food/beverage environment is a plus).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of P&ID development and engineering specifications. development. Experience with piping layouts, instrumentation controls, tank/storage handling, and fluid diversion, mixing of fluid medias as well as pumps, and valves.
  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to achieve the optimal solution.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in computer applications including AutoCAD, Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Working knowledge of the engineering practices and protocols established by the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR).
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in engineering, chemical or environmental highly preferred.

Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to function in a production environment using standard equipment.
  • Subject to environmental conditions inside and outside, atmospheric conditions, noise, hazards (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, etc.), working in high places (scaffolding or roof tops)
